Edinburgh Old Town Walking Tour

You’ll start your tour at the iconic St Giles Cathedral (High Street), Edinburgh’s Patron Saint. After discovering the many closes and ancient alley ways, you’ll walk onto the grounds of Edinburgh’s medieval Castle, home to Edinburgh’s oldest building, St Margaret’s Chapel, dating back to 1103 AD.

Immerse yourself in over 900 years of history while you walk onto the spectacular Victoria Street. You’ll make your way from the Grassmarket, home to the city’s original watering hole, then dander into Edinburgh’s West Bow and up to the now ultra modern Quartermile which expertly incorporates Edinburgh’s past with a listed former hospital before meandering down Forrest Road and past the scene of Burke & Hare.

You’ll pass the iconic Greyfriars Bobby before sauntering into The Cowgate, historically referred to as ‘Little Ireland’. Birthplace of a global trade unionist, James Connolly, as well as one of Edinburgh’s famous football clubs, Hibernian, created in St Patrick’s Hall in 1875.

Your guide will enchant you with stories of the Old Town’s ancient past, now a bustling nightlife district. Brace yourself for a walk up Niddrie Street and past the haunted vaults of the city, it’s well worth it when you come onto the High Street.

You’ll discover the Scottish Storytelling museum and John Knox House before concluding the tour at the City’s old gates at the aptly named ‘Worlds End Pub’, which was once encased by the Flodden Wall and outlined the boundary of Edinburgh to protect it from attack.

At this stage you can enjoy a well deserved refreshment next door in the spectacular Waverly Bar on St Mary’s Street. With over 350 whiskies on offer, a charming interior and local friendly welcome in equal measure, it’s the perfect spot to end this unmissable tour.

“This was recommended by a friend who had been on the tour. I’m so glad we done it. My parents and I learned a lot, our English isn’t good, but the guide was helpful and catered the tour so we could understand.”
